Reiki at The Sacred Ways is taught in the Usui Reiki Ryoho tradition - the tradition understood

as the original Japanese practice created by Mikao Usui for healing and wellness. The system

of Reiki is generally taught at 3 Levels, although this may vary slightly across teaching

The classes I teach follow the work of Frans Steine and Bronwen Logan, who founded

the International House of Reiki to provide complete and authentic teaching of the original

system of Reiki.  (Visit www.IHReiki.com if you wish to learn more about this wonderful group

and the dedicated work they do.)  I was taught both by Frans Steine (in 2018) as well as

Deanne Lozano (2011) who was a student of Frans and Bronwen.

Here is a general description of the 3 Levels of Reiki, courtesy of International House of Reiki:

SHODEN LEVEL 1 (Japanese: "Beginning Teachings")

Shoden teaches to practice healing the self and the basics about helping others. At this level, the student is heading out on the path to self-discovery.  This is just the beginning.

OKUDEN LEVEL 2 (Japanese: "Hidden or Inner Teachings")

Okuden is where the students learn three mantras and three symbols that aid in focusing the energy.  At this level you discover your  hidden inner qualities such as your Earth, Heaven and Heart Energy.  There is the opportunity to develop a professional treatment practice form these teachings.

SHINPIDEN LEVEL 3 (Japanese; "Mystery Teachings")

Shinpiden focuses on personal development and teaches the student how to performa attunements.  At this level you move into discovering more about the mysteries of life.  How you relate to yourself and the universe.  This can be practiced for the rest of your life and is always a personal practice which can develop into a professional teaching practice if you so desire.

There are also deeper Japanese cultural and philosophical understandings that are taught at each level, which will be explained in more detail with the appropriate levels.

Please note: You DO NOT need to take classes beyond Level 1 if you do not choose. The first level provides tools and techniques to use over and over again in your healing and self development.

Note: For Summer/Fall in-person classes you must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In this class you will be provided a solid foundation of the concept of energy healing and tools to create a more balanced and meaningful life. These include meditation, breath-work, hands-on healing, techniques, exercises, discussion, and more over the 2-day class. You will leave with a full "system" of tools and techniques to begin changes in yourself and others, including a manual of all information shared.

Over the 2-Day class we will cover:

  • Introduction to Reiki and Energy Work including History

  • The Elements of the System of Reiki

  • Traditional Reiki Techniques and Meditations

  • Other Techniques and Meditations

  • How to Work on Yourself

  • How to Work in Others

The class is taught over a 2-day period to allow proper time to discuss, share, practice and re-inforce the material with each other.  The emphasis of this class will be to work on yourself, although we will begin to understand the opportunity to work on others as well.

Class begins promptly at 9:30am and lasts until about 3pm both Saturday and Sunday.  There will be time allowed for breaks and lunch on each day.

The system of Reiki provides an opportunity to learn meditative techniques to calm yourself and others...thereby prompting healing of body, mind and/or soul. Learning Reiki can be a great practice for stress relief, personal connection, or general wellness.

Like Yoga and Meditation, Reiki comes from a sacred or spiritual origin which encourages us to return to our "original nature". However, the practice does not promote or require any particular spiritual or religious belief system. The connection you create within yourself is of your own choosing and understanding.

You do not need any prior meditative experience or Reiki-treatment experience before coming to class.  The class size will be small (no larger than 4 students) to allow a person experience for you.

The cost of the class is $300 for the 2-Day Class including Manual and Completion Certificate.

Please wear comfortable/casual clothing, just as you would for a Reiki session. Although I will give you a manual, you will probably want to bring something to take notes on as well. I will have water, tea, snacks, etc.

PRIVATE CLASSES (In-Person or Zoom)

A private, or individualized, class teaches the same material referenced above but in a manner that best meets your personal needs.  The approx. 12 hour of Reiki training can be divided up over multiple days or nights, or can be done over a traditional weekend period.  The cost for a private class is $375. Please contact me directly to discuss by texting or calling 312-835-0276.  If done by Zoom, you will be required to do one 2-hr in-person session as follow-up.

NOTE: this class is for those who have taken Level 1: Shoden with The Sacred Ways

  • In Okuden, or "Inner Teachings" you learn three mantras and symbols that aid in focusing energy.  At this level you discover more deeply hidden internal qualities which are called Earth, Heaven and Heart Energy.  You also learn more about how to work on other people and this level is considered a requirement if you plan to have any sort of professional practice.  This level also includes review of some of the elements from the first level of Reiki - Shoden.

  • Okuden is a one-day class, but is a longer day (approx. 8 hours).  It is only a one-day class because there is no need to explain the foundational information on Reiki (e.g. history, precepts) and is more focused on new practices.  It is possible that future classes may be spread over 2 days, but for now this will be a single day.

Going further in your practice is a personal decision.  There is no requirement to take more classes and you are not "behind" if you don't decide to take another Reiki class soon.  This is totally up to you.

However, if you're feeling connected to the Reiki practice and would like to learn more, or plan to consider working on others in a bigger way, this will help you.

If you're struggling to maintain a regular practice this may, or may not, change that.  If you're the kind of person that might benefit from the inspiration of more teaching, Okuden might be good for you.  On the other hand, if you feel overwhelmed with having to do, or remember, various techniques or practices, this might add more to your plate and not help you build your foundation...yet.

I would ask that you "feel out" where you think you are. Consider doing the next level to expand you or inspire you but not out of worry that you are not "doing enough".

If you have any questions about taking a Reiki class, please call me at 312-835-0276. I'm happy to talk in advance with you.

Thank you!
