Healing and Palo Santo

People will often come in for a Reiki session and say "what's that nice smell?"

The Sacred Ways always has a mixture of smells from various incense, but the most prominent is Palo Santo - pictured below. Palo Santo is burned before each session to help cleanse the room.

What is Palo Santo?

Palo Santo, or "holy stick", comes from a wild tree native to Peru, Venezuela and other areas with dry, tropical forests. The tree belongs to the same family as Frankincense and Myrrh and has been used by sacred healers for thousands of years to clear energy during ceremonies.

When burned, Palo Santo has a somewhat sweet smell which makes it easy to like.

Today, Palo Santo is also harvested for its oil which is used in healing and for relaxation. You can buy sticks of Palo Santo at local healing shops or where essential oils and incense are sold. Whole Foods also sells Palo Santo.
